Night Operations

Conducting helicopters operations at night has some challenges. Review Chapter 12 of the Helicopter Flying Handbook FAA-H-8083-21B. Below is video on key aspect of flying a helicopter at night.

Assignment: Plan a night flight in your local area. Review the sectional chart, chart supplement, or other material to determine:

• The lighting at the chosen airports or helicopters.
• The method to control lighting if applicable
• The airspace during time of planned flight (some change during time of day, such as D to E or D to G)
• Any obstacles on the chosen flight path
